Get a Second Life!

BigPond has taken its Second Life presence to the next level and created a version of the Sydney CBD in 3D on BigPond's Second Life islands. Teleport there today and you can explore BigPond's virtual Sydney called SydSim.

BigPond has created an experimental group of islands in the amazing online world of Second Life - one of the world's biggest 3D virtual parties. And life on our islands is unmetered for most BigPond Broadband Members. So now you can immerse yourself in the latest internet phenomenon without usage worries!

Step 1. Join the party.

Use our sign-up page to register as a Second Life resident and set up your virtual identity (your avatar).

Step 2. Get going.

Next, you'll need the Second Life software. It's a big file, so make sure you get it as an unmetered download from BigPond. See our Second Life FAQ page for more information.

Step 3. Take an island holiday.

You're ready! Start up the Second Life software and log in. Your avatar will rez (appear) on one of BigPond's orientation islands. Take a look around...

Step 4. Make a friend.

You'll soon meet Very Mulberry - the BigPond mascot and manager. She'll help get you started and show you around. Why not start by saying 'hello'?

Step 5. See the world.

Once you're in-world, you can move, chat, change clothes, scuba, sail, watch car races, see a movie, even make and spend Linden money. And everything you enjoy on our islands is unmetered.

Step 6. Rent Property in The Pond.

For the first time, BigPond is inviting Broadband Members to rent their own island retreat in The Pond. All available properties will be available for viewing in-world at an information booth on Pondillion and other locations throughout BigPond's Second Life Islands. Only if you are already registered for Second Life, should you go to the information booth on Pondillion.

Important Stuff

There are a few important things you should know before you get into Second Life.

You need to be 18 years of age or older to join Second Life. (And being broad-minded is a good thing too!)
Second Life takes a lot of data and bandwidth. So the System Requirements are quite high-end - but still easily achievable.
Unmetered usage only applies to activity on the BigPond islands when you access the internet via BigPond.
Second Life software is only an unmetered download when you get it manually from the BigPond server. Make sure you don't select or accept automatic updates offered to you during login to Second Life. Decline, then go to the BigPond page and get your update manually.
