What is it?

ADSL is a high-speed broadband internet service that lets you:

  • Hook up more than one PC to the internet simultaneously with an ADSL Home Network
  • And because the ADSL technology shares your existing telephone lines, there’s no need to have extra cables or external equipment installed. That means getting ADSL can be simple, quick and easy.

For superfast broadband, ADSL2+^ offers access speeds of up to 20Mbps*. That’s up to 350 times faster than a standard 56kbps dial-up connection, and up to 78 times faster than 256kbps ADSL connection. ADSL2+ is currently available in all major cities and many other major regional centres. Check to see if it's available to you.

Once you've chosen your available ADSL service, you can select the modem that's right for you.

    * Speeds based on Telstra tests. Actual speeds may be less due to a number of factors including network configuration, line quality & length, exchange type, member premises interference, traffic and hardware and software. About 70% of members on the 8Mbps plan can access speeds around 6Mbps or more. About 50% of members on the 20Mbps plan can access speeds around 10Mbps or more.

    ## Note: The range of your Home Network Gateway (Wi-Fi modem) equipment can be affected by the proximity of electromagnetic devices such as TVs, radios and cordless phones, or if any of the following objects lie directly between your computer and the Home Network Gateway (Wi-Fi modem):
    • Large metal objects.
    • Bodies of water, like fish tanks, above ground pools, etc.
    • Several high-density floors or walls.
    Your Home Network Gateway (Wi-Fi modem) does not affect the speed of your BigPond ADSL service, however the connection between the gateway and your computer may be slower than a wired connection. Speeds will also vary depending upon the number of computers sharing a connection at any one time.
