Static IP for ADSL

Benefits

Typically, ADSL users are assigned a dynamic IP address (any one that happens to be available) at the start of each online session.

A Static IP Address gives your computer a fixed address (like a phone number) on the internet. That means other computers always know how to find yours, so they can locate it from anywhere across the internet.

That's essential if you want to offer online services, like a VPN or access to your company files or mail server. You'll also need a static IP address to host your own domain name, conduct voice-over-IP calls or a variety of other web-based services. And some online business services also insist on a Static IP address for security authentication purposes.

On a lighter note, it also means you can host online games, and other players will be able to enter your IP address directly.

Telstra Internet Direct

Please note that it is only possible to have one Static IP address and that will only be assigned to your Primary User login. If you support several users, your sub-accounts will be provided with a normal dynamic IP address whenever they login.

Pricing

The Additional Services fee for Static IP is $10.00 per month (charged monthly in advance)^{^^}.

^^ If you cancel (or we terminate) your Static IP Service part way through a billing month you will be charged for the part month on a pro-rata basis.

Setting up your Static IP

When you're ready to set up your Static IP, simply click the 'Buy Now' link below and log into the appropriate 'My Account' page.

You can only have one Static IP address per BigPond Broadband ADSL account, and it can only be assigned to the Primary username log-in for use in your home region. If you log in while travelling, you will be assigned a dynamic IP address for the session.

If you have multiple logins, your sub accounts will also be assigned a dynamic IP address for each online session. (Need more than one static IP address? Telstra Internet Direct may be a better solution for you.)
