FIGHTING SPAM

Printer friendly page

Fighting Spam Spam, or junk email, is a big concern for most internet users.

While most spam just tries to sell you a product or service, some contain viruses or intrusive spyware that infect your PC and collect information about you.

When BigPond mailboxes become affected by spam, our mail servers become congested, causing mail delays and problems for all Members.

What can I do to help prevent spam?

Being careful who you give your email address to, reporting spam, and using a spam filter. These are just some of the steps you can take to reduce spam.

What does BigPond do to help fight spam?

We're reducing spam with a network spam filter, the 'report as spam' button in WebMail, and the availability of a BigPond Spam Filter.

Can I complain about spam?

There are two ways you can complain about spam. See complaining about spam to my BigPond mailbox or complaining about spam that's originated from BigPond.

What exactly is spam, and who sends it?

ACMA defines spam as 'unsolicited commercial electronic messaging'. This includes unrequested or unwanted email or message to your mobile device (like an SMS or MMS). See more about what spam is and who sends it.

What are the guidelines for BigPond Members when sending bulk email?

Generally, BigPond Members can't send more than 20 emails in 10 minutes and they can only be sent using the BigPond mail servers. See more about our guidelines for sending email.
